Pronunciation Skills B
  • differentiate between common English minimal pairs and vowel sounds through recorded samples of various speakers
  • test your own pronunciation by asking other English speakers to analyse your speech
  • record different English speakers and investigate their different accents
  • practise and master a variety of tongue-twisters
In Pronunciation Skills B, you learn how to differentiate between and pronounce /r/ & /l/, /th/ & /f/, and /a/ & /u/. Next, you listen to a number of recordings and choose which sound you hear. After this, you practise using the correct pronunciation with a number of British Hills staff. You then play a game in which you must pronounce words correctly to open a safe, before practising difficult tongue-twisters.
All About Me B1
  • describe your past achievements and experiences 
  • discuss the past experiences of well-known people 
  • practise question forms for asking about past events
In All About Me B1, you will practise using the present perfect tense to discuss your past experiences and the experiences of others. You will begin by discussing your past experiences with your teacher, before focusing on the language form. Next, you will play several games including 2 Truths, 1 Lie and Guess Who! in which you must both hear and say the present perfect tense correctly. Finally, you will prepare and share the achievements of both yourself and other people that you know.
Introducing Japan: Comparisons & Recommendations
  • describe your hometown
  • explain your household routine to a guest
  • compare places in Japan and give advice on what visitors should and should not do when visiting famous sites
In Introducing Japan: Comparisons & Recommendations, you will practise describing your hometown and famous areas of Japan in English. You begin by learning how to describe both the location and important landmarks of your hometown and prefecture, before learning to compare it with other places for reference. Next, you learn how to ask and answer question in the passive form, before learning and practising giving recommendations on what to see and do to visitors to Japan.
Shopping B1
  • role-play comparing everyday items in a shop 
  • compare items in the British Hills shop
  • ask shop staff for information
In Shopping B1, you will practise the language needed for shopping in English, from entering the store to leaving with your purchases. You first watch several videos of native English speakers shopping and asking questions of shop staff, before roleplaying these situations yourself. You then focus on the form of comparisons, learning how to use the language correctly. Finally, you are given a shopping list and several questions, and have to go the British Hills shop to discover this information using your English.
Travel English: Directions
  • practise prepositions of place
  • follow directions around British Hills
  • test your understanding through task-based challenges
In Travel English: Directions, you will practise prepositions and asking for and giving directions to people trying to find their way around British Hills. In the first half of this lesson you will focus on form, learning and practising the vocabulary and phrases necessary for travel overseas. In the second half of the lesson, you will ask British Hills staff for directions to different locations, following them and seeing if you interpreted them correctly! Finally, you will give directions to our staff.
Where is it?
  • learn the common collocations of English prepositions
  • ask and answer questions involving the location of both places and things
In, on, or at? In Where is it?, you will practise describing the locations of places and items. You will first look at the language with your teacher to ensure you know the various uses of the many English prepositions, before building long phrases using them. Next, you will watch a short video a classic Sherlock Holmes, and try to remember and describe the locations of different objects and people. Finally, after plenty of practice you will go to a new location at British Hills, such as Victorian Alley, and practise describing locations with your teacher.
My British Hills Stay B
  • use the past simple and past continuous to talk about multiple events happening at the same time
  • test your memory and your language ability by describing exciting events
  • give reasons and alibis for where you were when strange things happened at British Hills!
Strange things are afoot in My British Hills Stay B! Can you give your alibi for when they happened? You will first watch a short video of a guest’s stay at British Hills and try to describe the strange events that happen. You will then focus on the language that allows you to describe events happening at the same time, before discussing your memories of where you were when famous historical events occurred. Finally, you will be accused of committing a crime at British Hills and be forced to defend yourself by telling us where you were and what you were doing at the time!
Conversation Builder
  • extend your vocabulary through practicing question forms, adjectives, and adverbs
At level B you should now be able to hold a limited conversation, but find you are limited in vocabulary. Conversation Builder will help you widen your vocabulary so that you can use detailed, nuanced language to add depth to your English. The lesson is divided into three parts: first, questions and question formation; second, adjectives and how to use them; third, adverbs and how to use them.
English Scrabble
  • learn the rules for and challenge your teacher to a game of the popular word-game: Scrabble.
Scrabble is an exceptionally famous game played all around the English-speaking world, challenging your vocabulary and spelling abilities. In this lesson, you will learn rules and strategies for playing, before challenging your teacher to a game. Can you be the winner?
Sharing Anecdotes
  • create and share anecdotes through reported speech
  • construct present continuous clauses with “...when...” and “...while...” and the past perfect tense
  • learn the correct adjective word order that sounds natural to native English speakers
​Learn how to tell interesting stories! In Sharing Anecdotes, you will begin by recreating a premade story and learning how to tell it naturally, before recounting events you see occur in videos and clips to your partner. Learn how structure an anecdote so that it has a clear start, middle, end, and a conclusion that ties it all together. Finally, you will tell your own anecdote!
Presentations (course of 3 or more lessons)
  • work with a British Hills teacher to prepare and deliver a professional presentation
  • develop your design skills and speech skills, practicing the use of eye contact, intonation, and gestures
Do you have an important presentation coming up? Are you confident delivering speeches in English to others? Work with our British Hills teachers to prepare a presentation on a topic of your choice. Our teachers will coach you through the presentation design process, using PowerPoint or presentation software of your choice. Once your presentation materials are ready, we will train you delivering a smooth, professional, and confident delivery practicing several times to ensure you deliver the best possible presentation.
Talk Show
  • learn to differentiate between acceptable and unacceptable questions
  • create ‘main topic’ questions and anticipate and prepare various follow-up questions and comments
  • prepare and carry out a TV interview with a famous person (played by a British Hills member of staff)
Who do you want to interview? In Talk Show, you will host your own television program and interview a celebrity of your choice. Prepare your questions, learn how to develop follow-up comments and questions, and experience using English when you are in control.
