Next, let’s make some goals for your British Hills trip. These are things you should work on both of these things during your stay at British Hills.
When writing your goals, be sure to be realistic. Make goals that you can actually achieve, that aren’t dependant on other people, or specific things happening.
If you don't know where to start, here are two areas you can think about when making your personal goals.

Relationships 👫
The best way you can improve your English is by building relationships with people using English. Building relationships with other speakers will also motivate you to improve your English-speaking ability. Also, don’t restrict yourself to just speaking English with your teachers! Try to speak it with your classmates, and even the Japanese staff at British Hills.
Look at the example below. Identify your difficulties, think about you can improve, and then make a goal.
First, what do you find difficult about making relationships with English speakers?
e.g. I don't know how to keep the conversation going with native speakers.
Next, how can you improve on these problems?
e.g. I can practise speaking by asking questions to my classmates.
My goal: I will learn new things about my classmates.
💡TIP: Be creative! Gesture. Share photos or videos. Remember, both talking and listening are an important part of making conversation.

Confidence 💪
Do you have trouble talking to people in English? By working on your confidence in English, you’ll find communication easier, and learning English will become more fun too!
Challenge yourself at British Hills is the perfect place to practise your English with our teachers, staff, and your classmates. When you make a goal, think about things that you have trouble with (for example: speaking, listening, asking questions).
Look at the example below. Identify your difficulties, think about you can improve, and then make a goal.
First, what do you lack confidence in?
e.g. I am not good at starting conversations.
Next, how can you improve on these problems?
e.g. I can try to think of questions to start a conversation.
My goal: I will use questions to start conversations with the teachers I meet at British Hills.
💡TIP: Mistakes are natural – don’t be afraid to try! Most of our foreign staff are language learners themselves! They know the difficulty that comes with communicating in a different language.
