G’day, I’m Rachel and I’m from Brisbane in sunny Australia. I’ve lived in Fukushima from August, 2018. My first visit to Japan was in 2006, when I was in middle school and did a homestay in Fukuoka. Since that time I always wanted to live in Japan, so I decided to study Japanese at university. When I graduated university, I completed a teaching course and moved to Japan as soon as I could. I feel very lucky to have the chance to live and work here at British Hills.
In my free time I like to sew and read books. Since coming to Japan I’ve also enjoyed plenty of outdoor sports like hiking, badminton and skiing. I’ve been as far north as Hokkaido and as far south as Fukuoka, but I really want to go to Okinawa! I’m used to very hot weather in Australia, so snowy Fukushima is a bit of a change for me. Here I can play in the snow on Christmas, but in Australia we go to the beach on Christmas Day. Ask me if you ever want to learn more about Australia! It’s a wonderful place in which to sightsee, work and study.
